On August 7, 2006, the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) announced the compilation of a new sub index, the ALL ORDINARIES GOLD (Sub Index) or XGD. The data, going back to August 23, 2000 became available on August 26, 2006.

The XGD is a weighted index made up of twenty-four Australian Gold producing and exploring companies (see the list here). The data is compiled on a daily basis, but as is the case with other All Ordinaries "sub indexes", only End Of Day (EOD) data is provided.

The old ASX Gold index (the XGO) was discontinued at the end of June 2002. The new index (the XGD) is not compatible with the old one so that long-term charts (the old XGO went back to 1985) cannot be shown here. Nor, due to the EOD nature of the data, can daily bar charts.
